The 5.2 earthquake shook San Diego, California, and the surrounding area on Monday afternoon, according to US geological studies.
The earthquake struck at 10:08 local time (18:00 GMT) with an epicenter in Julian, California.
The resort town is located in the Kuyamaka Mountains about an hour northeast of San Diego.
About two hours after the earthquake, Peret Godwin, a spokesman for San Diego, told the BBC that there were no reports of structural damage or injuries.
San Diego's sheriff's service also said it has not yet “has received reports of injuries or major damage caused by the earthquake,” but said it was a “developing situation”.
The office of California Gavard Gavin Newo published on X shortly after the earthquake that he had been informed of the situation.
The USGS continued to take into account smaller afternails in the region per hour after the earthquake.
Meanwhile, the National Meteorological Service said no tsunami was expected.
In the times before the hit, the emergency signals issued by the USGS ordered the residents to shelter as far as Los Angeles.
“Run, cover, hold. Protect yourself,” the signal reads.
Kevin Manau ate breakfast when he received a signal, and quickly sheltered under the door frame.
“Certainly enough, the shaking started to happen,” said G -nawa. “I lived in San Diego for the bigger part of my life, I was born here. This is probably the oldest quake I have ever felt.”
“It was a little shocking,” he continued. “Everything shook, a lot of shook. It shook around and went on for maybe three seconds, and then it was over.”
Earthquakes are known difficult to predict,But the time of the signal – about 15 seconds for G -n -Manau – was enough to take action.
“The way they managed to predict this has given me time to get to safety,” he said.
Although his house has not suffered damage, D -Nawa said he would probably be prepared in the event that another earthquake had come.
“In between and Wild fires in Los Angeles, It made me think it was probably a good idea to have an evacuation bag, “he said.
