British lawmakers voted against launching a national inquiry into the UK's crime scandal on Wednesday, following objections to the way the vote was presented – and amid an international probe into the crisis. first is Elon Musk.
The House of Commons voted on an amendment to launch a legal inquiry into the scandal – which revealed that men of Pakistani heritage sexually abused girls for years in towns in northern England.
The measures were an amendment to the child health and schools bill supported by the Labor government. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has warned that a pro-reform vote will kill the general bill it is attached to. The amendment was approved by a vote of 364 to 111 in the Labour-controlled chamber, Sky News reported.

“What we need now is action. What cannot be tolerated is the thought that this afternoon different members will vote down a bill that protects children,” Starmer said ahead of the vote, calling it a “devastating change.”

Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch pushed back.
He told her: “Be a leader, not a lawyer,” as he said a new study should investigate issues related to cities.
“The reason why a national investigation is important is because this issue is systemic,” he said, involving “local and state officials, police, prosecutors and politicians.”
“These interconnected issues cannot be dealt with by domestic inquiries alone,” he said.
Previous reports they had found evidence of “appalling” abuse, with more than 1,400 girls abused between 1997 and 2013 in Rotherham alone. The reports also found that authorities were afraid of inciting racism when dealing with crimes based on the race of the offenders. The scandal tapped into growing concerns about multiculturalism and mass immigration.
The issue has recently returned to the spotlight after local officials in Oldham called on the government to launch a national inquiry into the town's handling of the crisis. The 2022 report found that the children were failed by the officers, but did not find a cover-up despite concerns that it would be used by right-wing activists.

The UK government rejected the request, saying any question should be resolved locally. That, drew calls from Badenoch and Elon Musk for national research.

“Please call your MP and tell them that the hundreds of thousands of young British girls who were, and are, being horribly raped, deserve justice in this world,” said Musk on Wednesday.
“This is very important, or it will always be,” he said.

Starmer had previously criticized “lies and misinformation” without naming Musk directly, and accused UK politicians of violating a “far-right group.”
On Wednesday, he again accused Badenoch of jumping on the bandwagon and urged lawmakers to make sure the broader bill passed.
