Astrohaus has cornered a very specific niche. The Michigan-based startup makes hardware for writers who want to eliminate distractions. It's really hard to get this outfit done when you have Instagram.
The company has dominated most tech trends, but its latest offering has found a hoop to jump through. Announced at CES 2025.Wordrunner embraces the mechanical keyboard horde while staying true to Astrohaus' mission statement of distraction-free writing.
Freewrite Wordrunner is, in essence; It's a standard mechanical keyboard with a few writer-focused twists. in particular, The peripheral has a wordometer (word count) and a “sprint timer” for writing.

The idea is to bake productivity tools directly into the product itself. Astrohaus is basically giving you a way to bypass writing apps and focus on writing.
“Writers use keyboards more than anyone else; But there have never been professional-grade tools made specifically for them,” said Adam Leeb, founder and CEO. “While there's an entire industry of gamers creating specialized features for them, writers have had to rely on general-purpose keyboards and additional software to track their work. Wordrunner changes this relationship by making the keyboard an active participant in the writing process — a true writing partner, not a passive input device.”
The keyboard is aluminum, Features floating keys and red control knob. The system is scheduled to ship in late 2025 and went on sale on Kickstarter in February.
