Hyundai Motor and Kia Corporation have agreed to work with the South Korean Government to develop and commercialize the next generation's associated digital tachograph for commercial vehicles.
Both automators, both part of Hyundai Motor Group, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (Mou) with the Ministry of Transport and the State-run Korea Transport Safety Authority, committing to the development and introduction of the new digital tachograph in their commercial vehicles of 2026.
Digital tachographs automatically record the speed, miles and location of a vehicle in real time using -rean world positioning system (GPS). Transport companies in South Korea are required by law with tacographs in commercial vehicles such as trucks and buses, with the data usually removed and delivered manually to the authorities.
Next generation digital tachographs automatically store, analyze and present the data using related vehicle platforms. Hyundai and Kia plan to integrate their existing affiliate service platforms, Bluelink and Kia Connect, into their digital tachographs, which they expect to help “reduce the burdens of compliance on commercial vehicle operators and increase the general data delivery rate.”
“Hyundai, Kia to develop Next-Gen Digital Tachographs” was originally created and published by Just autoBrand owned by Globaldata.
