Like a Mercedes-Benz getting ready to add NACS ports to new models This year, the automaker is opening up access to the Tesla Supercharger network for its existing electric vehicles. Beginning in February, authorized Mercedes dealers will offer U.S. electric vehicle owners a free software update that will open the gateway to a network of more than 20,000 Supercharger stations in North America. In the first quarter of 2025, dealers will sell the adapter for existing models for $185 to get your fix.
Mercedes-Benz is the latest automaker to adopt NACS, now that Tesla's charging technology has arrived. has established itself as a standard. Other manufacturers following this example include Ford, Nissan, GM, Honda, Subaru, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche…you get the point: that's pretty much it. To use an outdated 20th century metaphor, NACS essentially became VHS to Betamax CCS.
Canadian Mercedes-Benz owners aren't left out, but they'll have to wait a little longer. The automaker says the software update will arrive “later in 2025.” Meanwhile, the adapter will be available in Canada in the second quarter.
Mercedes says it will add a Supercharger network to its Should I charge it? service that provides optimized Plug and Charge functionality: connect your EV, it starts automatically and your payment is processed automatically in the background. (Great!) Mercedes will also add a Supercharger to its “Navigation with Electric Intelligence” system, which makes it easy to get turn-by-turn directions to the nearest station. It also allows you to filter search results by charger type and view charger availability, status and prices in real time.
The automaker says it will contact EV owners to schedule a software update. Mercedes dealers will also contact you when the $185 NACS-CCSI DC Fast Charge Adapters become available.
