Nike prototype shoes squeezed and warmed our tired feet at CES 2025. Here's how they feel

“So far it feels like it's vibrating, almost like a massage, kind of.” Those were the words of my colleague, CNET Senior Editor Lisa Eadicico, when she slipped her feet into a new breed of Nike shoe on CES 2025. Made in partnership with Hyperice, these boat-like boots are basically recovery high tops, embellished with buttons and designed to help your tired shoes recover from pain and strain.

The innovative footwear, which we saw in person for the first time in Las Vegas, takes the idea of heating pads and compression socks as part of physical recovery for the feet and calves and makes that idea mobile. Instead of being laid on the couch with heating pads or slipping into compression socks without an extra heater, these on-the-go boots provide warmth and compression in footwear that works for you as you walk around.

What's more, the buttons let you adjust the compression on your feet and calves, as well as the amount of heat blasted into your tired muscles. There are three settings for each.

“You can definitely feel the heat in here,” Eadicico said as he walked through a demo room in Vegas. The boots massage and compress your ankles and feet, and in our test we could especially feel the warmth around the ankles.

Although the Nike x Hyperice shoes first debuted at the Paris Olympics last summer, we jumped at the chance to try them out for ourselves as a preview of what's to come in the space where electronics aid in active recovery rather than just monitoring your vitals.

The boots are battery powered and are intended to be used for both warm-up and post-workout recovery. says Nike The Normatek dual air bubble system bonded to the heating elements spreads heat evenly throughout the boot to warm the muscles and tissue of your feet and ankles.

Without testing them longer, it's hard to say how effective the shoes would be as a warm-up or recovery system. But on first use, the features are definitely noticeable.

The shoes have velcro straps, feel soft and comfortable to walk in, and for now come in a range of sizes rather than individual sizes – so for example a men's size 10-12. Nike is working on a consumer version that will be released, but there is no word yet on when it will launch or how much it will cost.

Nike is also developing a compression and warmth vest as part of the wearable line.
