The following is a transcript interview with former FDA commissioner Scott Gotlib, Pfizer Board and Executive Chairman of the Council in Illumina, who broadcast “Fare The Nation from Margaret Brennan” on June 29, 2025.
Margaret Brennan: Now we are referring to the Iranian ambassador to the United Nations, Air Saiida Iranian, who joins us from New York. Welcome to “face the nation”.
Amb. Into: Thank you that you are me.
Margaret Brennan: Ambassador, can you give us a certain clarity? Does Iran intend to restore the nuclear language enrichment program on its soil?
Amb. Iron: You know that we are a member of the responsible member, NPT, and, according to this, we have mutual rights. This means that one side's right will be the other party. The NPT has determined that we have two very obvious right. The first is that we can conduct development research, we can have uranium products, and we can use, peacefully, energy. And the second right is that the legal protection of the IAEA for our activity and technical cooperation for our development program.
Margaret Brennan: Yes.
Amb. Iron: And in return, the agency will also be in this regard that they must have full access in accordance with a safe, comprehensive protection agreement.
Margaret Brennan: Yes.
Amb. Iron: The second is that it will always remain peaceful to preserve our peaceful nuclear activity. Thus, enrichment is our right and an inalienable right, and we want to exercise this right.
Margaret Brennan: So you plan to restart the enrichment, it sounds like?
Amb. Into: I think the enrichment will not stop.
Margaret Brennan: Well, when you mentioned the NPT, only for our listeners, you are talking about some international agreements that Iran has concluded from the UN on non -proliferation and guarantee. You mentioned the UN nuclear inspectors. Secretary of State Mark Rubio yesterday released a statement saying that there were calls in Iran, I believe, from the newspaper, which is run by the High leader, accusing our previous guest Rafael Grasi of he was an Israeli spy and calls for arrest and execution. To make it clear whether Iran threatens UN inspector?
Amb. Iron: No, no threats. This is a very clear law- our parliament, which they were rejected, our cooperation with the IAEA, since the agency did not exercise their rights, responsibility. This is the conditional law, and this condition has not been established yet, so our cooperation with the IAEA will be suspended. But every time it came out in accordance with the law, so we can restore our cooperation. But there is no threat against the IAEA CEO.
Margaret Brennan: Well, which was published in the Israeli newspaper “Kajan”. Your Foreign Minister also said the IAEA and the Grossi themselves are in intent. Are the IAEA staff, inspectors already in Iran's safety? And can they go back to their work on your sites?
Amb. Into: That's right. They are in Iran. They are safe but the activity was suspended. They may not have access to our site, but perhaps anyone is an individual opinion of people who can criticize the IAEA or the threat to CEO. But we criticize the IAEA. We are our assessment that they did not do their work, so they failed, and they prepared (not heard) for such aggression against us.
Margaret Brennan: I imagine you would have condemned calls for his shooting?
Amb. Into: Yes.
Margaret Brennan: President Trump-
Z. Irants: (not heard) -Media.
Margaret Brennan: I know, and you talk to us with the UN. President Trump said on Friday that Iranian officials want to meet him personally and he said it was soon. Mr. Ambassador plans to refuse this requirement of indirect communication with the United States, and will you start talking to the Trump administration?
Amb. Iron: Before the meeting, we were in the negotiations, but because we know that any dispute between Iran and the US or other parts of JCPOA could not be resolved without negotiations and using peaceful means to resolve this dispute. So, we are negotiating and we are ready to negotiate, but after this aggression it is not a prerequisite for the new round of negotiations, and there is no request for negotiations and a meeting with the president.
Margaret Brennan: Well, the United States wants to meet with Iran to talk, and while the supreme leader issued a statement stating that Iran transferred to the American strokes, after which President Trump said he actually stopped Israel to go further and stopped Israel from trying to kill the top leader. Why not accept the proposal of the diplomatic lifeline? Because it seems to offer one.
Amb. Iron: This is a very gross violation of international law, which threatens the High leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran or any head of state, they have an impunity of any attack. So we need to understand what, what is the principle and condition for any negotiation? Negotiations are principles, and it is a process of giving and accepting. So, we need to participate in the negotiations and discuss with each other, perhaps we will come to the conclusion or not, but unconditional surrender – these are not negotiations. It dictates the policy towards us. When they are ready for negotiations, they will find us ready for it, but if they want to dictate us, for any negotiations with them, it is impossible
Margaret Brennan: Mr. Ambadar, thank you for your time today. We will look and wait to find out if there are diplomatic opportunities. We'll be back right back.
