A 44-year-old man is accused of trying to smuggle knife and other knives to the United States Capitol on the same day President-elect Donald Trump went to pay his respects while former President Jimmy Carter lay in state apparently made a series of anti-Trump statements in the media the community.
Mel J. Horne faces multiple charges of carrying a dangerous weapon after he tried to enter the Capitol Visitor Center with a knife, two folding knives and a box cutter, according to court documents. However, he was released a few days before Inauguration Day.
An account on X under his name and linked to a phone number linked to his phone number found in court documents show he has made several anti-Trump messages in recent days.
The report refers to president-elect and billionaire Elon Musk as “s—bags” while responding to a parody report of Trump that asked, “Do you like Elon Musk?”

Horne's mother has accused him of drug addiction and psychosis and asked the court to remove him from the home and order him to undergo psychiatric treatment.

Horne allegedly told Capitol Police that the bladed weapons were land clearing tools after placing them in an X-ray tray in the magnetometer screening area at the Visitor Center. Capitol, according to the affidavit.

Horne's arrest report identifies him as a first-time offender, although the status of his prior conviction was not immediately clear. He was previously incarcerated in 2019, but the Department of Corrections told Fox News Digital that it was not authorized to release records from the case. Court records show he faced multiple misdemeanor charges in 2004.

“My son lives in our house (free) and last year he started using something to get high or change his mind,” his mother, Brenda Horne, said in a public hearing. . “Now he's violent, and we're scared and we want him out of our home.”
He asked the judge to order him removed from his property and to force him to undergo mental health treatment.
The case was eventually dismissed without prejudice and Horne agreed to live away from his parents' home for a year, with the caveat that he was only allowed to go back outside the property to take care of his bonsai trees, to of the court documents.
