DOJ “politicized” under Biden, Ted Cruz hopes Pam Bondi will take it back

Like Senate Confirmation efforts for several of President-elect Donald Trump's nominees are underway, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is especially eager to see Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed as the state's top law enforcement officer.

“Pam Bondi did an outstanding job in her confirmation hearing,” Cruz told Fox News Digital in an interview Thursday. “He will be confirmed. He will be the next attorney general. And I believe, well, every one of them. Trump the cabinet nominees will be confirmed.”

Cruz said that Bondi, who was also Trump's lawyer, “may be the single most important person chosen by President Trump.”

“And the reason for that is under Joe Biden, unfortunately, we've seen the Justice Department being politicized and organized in a way that's unprecedented in the history of our nation in terms of how they changed the Justice Department and FBI going to the military to go after the political enemies of the president,” Cruz said.

During Bondi's hearing on Wednesday, Cruz asked him if he would investigate the thousands of children from other countries who entered the United States.

Bondi replied, “Yes, Senator.”

Asked if he was confident he would follow through if confirmed, Cruz said, “I am.”

“These were unaccompanied minors, little girls, boys coming into this country who were in the custody of the federal government, and the federal government turned them over to adults,” Cruz said. “Many elders were not their relatives, and now they have lost them. They don't know where they are.”

Republican lawmakers have been critical of the Biden administration's handling of the illegal immigration problem for the past four years.

Shortly after Trump's election victory in November, House Republicans Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra on the process of the system used to check sponsors.

Speaking before the House Committee on Integrity, Security and Enforcement, Becerra testified about the Department's Office of Refugee Resettlement, which is responsible for caring for and placing unaccompanied immigrant children. .

Members of the Republican subcommittee accused the Biden administration of rushing children of immigrants out of the custody of HHS and into the hands of unscreened sponsors, who sometimes harassed and abused them.

Cruz said he also asked for Trump's nomination for HHS secretary RFK Jr. to investigate missing migrant children, “because we have an obligation,” he said.

“Those were the children who were in custody government,” Cruz said. “We have an obligation to protect those children. ”
