Croatia's deputy prime minister has resigned after footage emerged of him shooting at random from a moving car.
In the video, Josip Dabro can be seen in the passenger seat chatting, laughing and singing to loud music, before picking up a gun and firing through an open window in the dark.
Dabro, who represents the hard-right nationalist party Rodno dvijevanie, said the video was from several years ago and that he was shooting practice bullets.
This is the latest incident that has alarmed the Croatian coalition – formed in May 2024. – with the government calling Dabro's behavior “inappropriate and irresponsible”.
In a resignation posted on Facebook, Dubrow, who was also Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, said he did not want to distract the government.
He said he had been subjected to “significant pressure and threats” over plans to reform the department.
The footage was released earlier this week.
Dabro's party is in a coalition government with the center-right Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.
Last November, Health Minister Willy Bros was fired ahead of a corruption investigation.
On Monday it was Zoran Milanovic re-elected president for a second termwinning almost three-quarters of the votes cast over opponent Dragan Primorac, who was supported by the CDU party.
After the result, Plenkovic said that “Milanovic is not offering anything” and refused to congratulate him. Presidents in Croatia perform a largely ceremonial role.
