In a Call of Duty Blog Postthe game developers said they are testing a cross-play switch for Ranked Play matches and will roll out the feature sometime during or after the new season starts next week.
“We've heard player feedback about the desire for a change to crossplay in Ranked Play since its launch earlier this season, and in the spirit of improving the gameplay experience, we're going back to the way we've traditionally handled crossplay,” says in the post. “In Season 02, we're enabling the ability to disable cross-play for console players who only want to compete against other console players.
The feature is currently being tested and will go live for Black Ops 6 and Warzone “during S02”.
“We will be monitoring closely and considering further changes to prioritize the integrity of the ecosystem and will have more details to share as we get closer to the launch of this feature,” the post said.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 2 is set to launch on January 28 at 10am PT/1pm ET for PlayStation and Xbox consoles and for PC on Steam and Battle.net.
While cross-play games allow PC and console players to team up or compete against each other in online games, not everyone likes the function. Some believe that PC gamers have a competitive advantage, especially in shooter games, because of the precision that keyboards and mice allow. On the other hand, console players usually have target-assistance function available in action games that can fix that discrepancy, which PC players may argue gives console players an unfair leg up.
