Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) is upset that Apple Maps still refers to the Gulf of America as the Gulf of Mexico. So upset that he tagged Apple CEO Tim Cook on Submit a report through the app but thought you'd like to know!” said the former Navy SEAL.
Crenshaw seems upset, motivated if you will, that Big Tech isn't changing as fast as he wants. He was so apologetic that he posted a cringe in the style of suburbanites dissatisfied at Target. Crenshaw's lamentation is typical of behavior I've seen in right-wing pundits and politicians in recent years. The emergence of posts and styles that were once leftist in the online space
Crenshaw is posting cringe-worthy and doubling down on the culture wars. They are obsessed with identity politics. Try to cancel the enemy. Maintain gender norms and appeal to their culture of persuasion. Even if that culture doesn't care. This is all they have been accusing the left of doing for a long time.

Less than 24 hours ago While writing this article Trump has signed an executive order titled “Restoring a name that honors America's greatness.– Among many other changes, the order also states that from now on the United States The Gulf of Mexico will be called the Gulf of America. Google and Apple have not yet updated the name.
These things take time. But just because Trump says the name is different doesn't make it so. It is the only untapped water source in the United States. and Mexico only, and the rest of the world will continue to be called the Gulf of Mexico. Many people outside of the United States use Google and Apple Maps, and it's a good thing they do. The name will not change for them.–
Wikipedia has not yet changed its name on entering the Gulf of Thailand. “Although it's official. But America has no entries on Wikipedia. (It) is still the Gulf of Mexico, as the rest of the world calls it.” Unnamed Wikipedia editor In the page's edit history
“This is a modern version of the Freedom Fry jingoism. It has nothing to do with geography and everything to do with politics,” another Wikipedia editor said of the conservatives' post-9/11 attempt to rename French fries. “We have the same perennial complaint against the British Isles from a series of Irish editors. This is nothing new or special. and can be recorded by yourself and with a simple mention. In the article, if and when it becomes more than a sound bite in a press release.”
But conservatives like Crenshaw will publicly call it out in self-deprecating and self-shaming posts. When victory They displayed characteristics that they accused their opponents of having for a long time.
The American Right controls the Supreme Court, the president, and the legislature. That kind of total political victory is not enough. They want you to like them too. They want you to laugh at their jokes. Take their memes seriously. and called the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America
The pinned post on Crenshaw's X account is “The Conservative Guide to the Culture Wars” from 2021. The second item on the list is the claim that “The mindset of a winner is better than the mindset of a victim.”
In the next four years I suspect we'll see more cringe-worthy posts from Crenshaw and others as winners twist themselves into victims. When little things don't go as expected. Or when it doesn't go as fast as they want.
