I don't find many graphics cards interesting. Without innovative case designs or pre-built desktops to provide the same level of appearance and performance, These things seem redundant compared to the other components. Sleek and low profile Nvidia RTX 5090 Founder's EditionOn the other hand, it appears to be extremely dangerous. It was a dark gray metal plate. It's a brick-like beetle that's ready to suck on your PSU and eat up your PC.
Nvidia sent me an RTX 5090 to review. But it also says I can't show you yet that it's open. I can't even show that it's tucked away in a desktop case. With these limitations This is my first impression.
The RTX 5090 Founders Edition measures approximately 12 inches by 5.3 inches and is 2 inches deep. That's roughly the same length and width. RTX 4090 Founder's Edition With the same two-fan design, however, the new card is shorter than the previous card. This is a two-slot card. Although that doesn't mean future OEMs will keep those sizes.
But for that It's a very heavy card. It sat in a cold FedEx truck for so long that the metal was hard to touch. Even when I got it up to room temperature, the GPU felt in pieces, with virtually no wasted room in this sheet of metal and silicon. It's the kind of card that makes me nervous to insert into my case with nothing supporting it besides a PCIe slot and two screws.
Compared to the other cards we have, including the PNY RTX 4080 Super, Asus RTX 4080 Super, and MSI RTX 4070 Ti Super, which all have three fans, the 5090 seems more self-contained. Use fewer channels in your case. But it needs extra support for the ends that stick outside your motherboard.
Nvidia vows that the new cooling device will manage to keep the card cool under pressure. The card ID field is at the bottom. And the exhaust gas will come out of the ventilation holes on top. That should be fine for most setups where airflow normally flows from the bottom to the top.
This weight adds to the overall aesthetics of the Founders Edition. The metallic gray color is intimidating. Especially compared to the RTX 4090's silver side, you can see the GPU when you shine light on it, just enough to see the heat pipes running through it. Otherwise, there's still a glowing GeForce RTX logo when the card is turned on.
The Founders Edition card now comes in a corrugated cardboard box that's supposed to replicate the footprint of the 5090. Inside is the GPU with no anti-static bag or sleeve. It doesn't seem necessary because the packaging is tight enough to prevent moving it around. In addition to the card The box also comes with a single short 4x PCIe 5.0 adapter. Nvidia has said You'll need an adapter that connects to up to four 8-pin PCIe connectors. or 600W PCIe Gen 5 cable
It also requires at least 1,000 W of system power, so if you feel okay with using an RTX 4080 Super with an 850 W PSU, this is another piece you'll need to upgrade to support Nvidia's strong new GPU.
The 16-pin power connection is now angled to the card. This may be useful for small cases. But I know that in my current setup with Origin PC, this actually means I have to twist the power connection up to fit in the correct slot. On the back, the only ports you'll find are three DisplayPort 2.1 and one HDMI 2.1b.
