Liver specialist and medical-scientist Dr Cyriac Abby Phillips, popularly known as 'The Liver Doctor' on social media, blamed Zoho co-founder and CEO Sridhar Vembu for supporting IIT Madras director Prof V Kamakoti, who recently highlighted the medicinal benefits of cows. Urine (gomutra).
In a post Ox X, Liver Doc hit out at the ongoing debate, writing, “Hey science ignorant boomer uncle, your so-called Indian traditional medicine, is encouraging heart transplants. How long have you been putting your foot in your mouth and talking behind your back, misinforming your followers and making a fool of yourself?
“Instead of promoting misinformed idiots like the IIT Madras professor and promoting old nonsense and primitive treatments, spread valuable information about how we as a community can move forward through science and the scientific method, as a man of influence,” Liver Doc said Highlighting the role of Zoho CEO in influencing public opinion.
Vembu defended Kamakoti by stating that cow urine scoffers fail to understand evolving scientific perspectives. Drawing parallels, he noted the growing interest in fecal implants and fecal pellets derived from healthy individuals—especially from pre-industrial societies—as a way to restore gut bacteria.
“If you're really interested in learning how the science behind its use of implants is, you can read about our work here. We have pioneered this method to save patients dying from severe alcohol-related hepatitis,” added Liver Doc, sharing links to the article.
Speaking at an event on January 15, Kamakoti said cow urine has “antibacterial, anti-fungal and digestive properties” and can be an effective treatment for conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). However, his claims drew criticism, with some detractors dismissing the claims as pseudoscience and questioning the rationale behind such claims.
“Urine therapy has no such known benefit and no science behind promoting its use. Educate yourself. Stop with the Strowman fouls,” Lever Doc explained.
