SAP CEO calls on Europe to fight artificial intelligence

Most recently, US President Donald Trump announced the Stargate project A $500 billion investment in US artificial intelligence infrastructure should be a “wake-up call” for Europe, according to the CEO of one of the largest technology companies in the region.

Asked on Thursday about the project, which is backed by OpenAI, SoftBank and Oracle and led by the Trump administration, SAP CEO Christian Klein said it should set an example for Europe.

“This is the right move and also aims to increase government productivity,” he said. “Look at Europe, we are always complaining about regulation of too many acts relating to artificial intelligence… This is a great role model for Europe.”

Klein added that he would “totally support” the Stargate project for Europe.

“We do business with all public sectors around the world, of course we would be happy to do that in Europe,” he told CNBC's Karen Tso and Steve Sedgwick. “From my point of view, Europe needs this the most.”
