In Threads you can now write over other users' posts.

Threads is adding a new feature that allows users to get a little more creative in remixing other people's posts. The app now has a “markup” tool that allows users to write over messages they want to share, Adam Mosseri shared. .

Markup options appear in the quoting and reposting menu. But instead of just quoting the message, it launches an editing tool that lets you add highlighting, arrows, or drawings on top of the message screenshot. Mosseri said the feature is intended “to allow you to add your own creative touch” to posts, but the tools are fairly limited at the moment. You can only add yellow highlights or red arrows and designs, although Mosseri said there is “some more coming soon” from Meta.

A Threads spokesperson confirms that the feature will work similarly to quoting posts: the original user will be notified if someone decides to tag their post. You can also use the “who can reply and quote” setting to turn off markup in your posts.

The app also has two other features that have already been officially announced: And . These features are likely to be especially useful for brands, creators, and others who provide a professional presence on a site that has so far lacked many of the more advanced business-oriented tools found on other Meta platforms. Both could also come in handy if the Meta starts on Threads, a project that is reportedly on track for early 2025.
