Belgian footballer Raja Nainggolan has been arrested as part of a cocaine-trafficking investigation.
The 36-year-old was one of several suspects detained by Belgian police on Monday morning following a series of actions across the country.
“The investigation concerns alleged facts about the importation of cocaine from South America into Europe through the port of Antwerp and its redistribution in Belgium,” said a statement from the prosecutor's office in Brussels.
Additional information has not been released to the public.
The arrest comes just six days after Nainggolan came out of retirement to sign for Lokeren in the Belgian second division.
He scored on his debut to give his side a point in a 1-1 home draw against K. Lierse.
The Antwerp-born midfielder spent most of his career in Italy, playing for Roma and Inter Milan.
Between 2009 and 2018, he recorded 30 appearances for the Belgium national team.
