A Russian-born US citizen already in prison in Russia on bribery charges has been sentenced to a second 15-year prison term for espionage, Russian news agencies reported Tuesday.
Moscow court were accused of espionage against Gene Spector in August 2023, although details surrounding the case have not been released.
Spector, whose Russian name is Yevhen Mironovich, according to local news agencies, was born in 1972 in Leningrad.
Previously, Spektor was the head of a Russian company for the production of medical equipment, in September 2022 he was sentenced to 3 and a half years in prison for bribing the assistant of the former Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.
Assistant Anastasiya Alyakseeva was sentenced to 12 years in April for receiving a bribe in the form of two expensive trips abroad.
In 2012-2018, Dvorkovich was the Deputy Prime Minister under Dmitry Medvedev. Now he heads the international chess federation FIDE.
In recent years, a number of persons with dual citizenship of the United States and the United States have been detained and sentenced in Russia. In July, Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Hershkovich was convicted of espionage released in August in a prisoner exchange with former US Marine Paul Whelan.
