American airlines Flights across the country were canceled Tuesday morning due to a technical problem, disrupting travel during what carriers expect will be record holiday demand.

However, at 7:55 a.m. ET, the ground stop was lifted, an American Airlines spokeswoman told CNBC.

“Technical issues are impacting U.S. flights this morning,” a spokeswoman said. “Our teams are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and we apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”

American said the problem stems from a third-party-provided platform.

“The problem has been resolved and flights have resumed,” the carrier said in a statement. “We sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience this morning.”

The Federal Aviation Administration said the American requested a ground stop

Airlines routinely request ground stops where flights stop at their departure point so that destination airports are not congested with flights and have nowhere to park in the event of disruptions. In addition to technical problems, ground stops are planned in case of storms and other difficult weather conditions.

Correction: The ground stop was released on Tuesday. An earlier version misstated the date.
