The US Department of Justice told prosecutors to refuse corruption case against New York Mayor Eric Adams.
Instant Deputy General Prosecutor Emil Bowv, appointed by President Donald Trump, instructed federal prosecutors in the South District of New York to end the case.
He claims that the prosecution could influence the upcoming mayoral election and said it had damaged Adams's ability to deal with “illegal immigration and violence.”
Adams has been accused of accepting illegal funds for campaign and gifts from Turkish businessmen in exchange for his influence as mayor. He has pleaded innocent Up to five charges of bribery, conspiracy violations and campaigns financing in September.
“Direct you, as permitted by the Prosecutor General, to reject the hanging accusations,” said Boww's note to prosecutors.
It leaves the case open to be re -examined after the mayor election in November 2025, but it is said that by then no further “investigation” should be taken.
He also says that prosecutors must “take all the steps within your power in order to have the restoration of the mayor Adams's security to be restored.”
Prosecutors have not indicated whether they intend to refuse the case as requested. Any decision for this will have to be officially presented to the court and approved by a judge.
The memorandum followed a report between Adams' lawyers and federal prosecutors in New York.
Adams, Democrat, has recently moved to build a closer relationship with Trump and his administration. He attended the presidential position last month and also flew to Florida for a meeting.
Adams said he had never talked to President Trump about his corruption case.
After these meetings, Adams directed the city law enforcement agencies to cooperate with the federal immigration authorities in New York attacks. Critics say this undermines local New York sanctuary Laws that direct city leaders not to cooperate with the authorities unless they seek to arrest dangerous criminals.
Bove stresses the need for Adams to cooperate further and claims that the corruption case has limited the mayor's ability to achieve “immigration goals established by President Trump.”
The note also claims that Adams was directed by the Ministry of Justice under former President Joe Biden because of the last Adams criticism of the former administration's immigration policy.
Bove did not provide any evidence to support this claim.
Boww who once worked as a prosecutor in the southern district and recently as Trump's lawyer during the President's criminal case last year clarifies that the case of justice wanted that the case was rejected “without evaluating the power of evidence or legal theories which is the case based. “
Bowva writes in the note that this order is not a challenge in the case, his merits or the integrity of prosecutors or service.
Instead, he emphasizes the importance of Trump's executive orders about the alleged “federal government's weapon” and illegal immigration, and he claims that Adams's case concerns both commandments.
