Sabina Graves, io9: LLet's talk about your journey too. Sonic What are tails? do Sonic What did it mean to you when you were growing up? And how did it feel to jump into voicing this character?
Colleen O'Shaughnessey: I Sonic The journey was long, which was very great. You entered for the first time in Sonic I play Charmy Bee in-universe. (Sonic) Color—(That) was the first game where I voiced Charmy. And that was about four years before I voiced Tails. I'm auditioning for a show. sonic boom gI booked Tails and it came with a video game, and here he is 10 years later on the big screen. Which is incredible, amazing. This franchise is very exciting, fans are very passionate about it. which is very beautiful And I'm so honored to be a part of it.And it's been a long time coming—it's wonderful.
io9: In the film, we see Tails jump into action and be more on the field. I know he was worried about this in the last movie. Can you tell us what it's like to see the journey and evolution of the characters in the franchise?
O'Shaughnessey: yes i love it Because for part two It was the beginning of his and Sonic's journey together. This is where they meet. So it was like the beginning of their story. He was very worried. It's like meeting one of your heroes and, you know, he hopes he lives up to expectations. And now he's really come into his own. In this movie He has more confidence. He feels part of the team. and is part of the family And they're all just great friends and teammates.
IO9: Yes, and I love the theme of this movie. I think that's one of the biggest things that made this film franchise really resonate with audiences. I grew up with the game and I'm sure you did too. Sonic in various forms before joining the cast What was it about this particular story for you that really resonated with you? And what do you like to present to the audience right now?
O'Shaughnessey: I love that there is something for everyone. They have taken this to an epic level. You know, it's got adventure, it's got action, but it still has humor and heart and family, all bases covered which is a lot of fun and very watchable. And truly There's something for everyone. You can see it with your children, with your parents, and everything in between.

io9: What was the audio search process like for this version of Tails?
O'Shaughnessey: WWhen I approached Tails I approached him the same way. Whether it's a game, a show, or a movie, this is much bigger. And we just talked about it being a different story—He finds himself in different situations. I guess it came from a more serious standpoint with him. Because the stakes are higher, it's not like, “Oh, it's a racing game,” “We have to go” –Well, let's go.” It's all like it's distinctive and powerful. and all that But it's still fun.
And it's not that it's not fun. But a dangerous situation has arisen. So it's more basic. It's more serious. It's definitely more of a movie. But what I think is so beautiful (about) this transformation is that we're just done with it. Sonic Frontiers Before I started recording the second film and Sonic Frontiers It's a much more serious game. And there's a lot more dialogue and a lot higher stakes.[It's]the same thing. So I was really prepared. because I had just finished Sonic Frontiers That's just a departure from the previous game.
IO9: SAfter shifting from nonsense to something darker. I'm very happy that they kept some of the darker elements. Sonic Adventure 2 in the film and puts Team Sonic in a more tense situation. He started showing the movie and they were like a brother band and they were having fun. Then things quickly became serious. What was it like stepping into that with Tails? I love that each brother represents a different type of child.
O'Shaughnessey: Yes, everyone has their own duties. And he's really cool under pressure. There's a lot of pressure. And some of that is up to him because he has a diagram, he has a plan, and he tries to keep the plan together. And I feel like his coolness under pressure has definitely increased. He has important things to do. And he jumped in and saved the day many times. which is great
io9: Yes, I really like it. WatchVery brave, which is great. so Take your career a bit further: At io9, we love talking about early fandoms, what games, movies, or books inspired your career path. And how did that lead to where you are today?
O'Shaughnessey: Anything that was a cartoon when I was a kid. I watch as much as my mother allows me to because (you) can't watch TV all day, but if I can, I will. When I was a child We don't have access to everything all the time. I am an avid watcher of cartoons and the magical world of Disney. The Muppets and all those things I would run around the house as all these characters. I will be Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. To Miss Piggy and Kermit and to all super friends oh my God I love all my super friends. Pretty much, pick a genre and I might be a fan of it and run around the house playing all those characters.

IO9: What was the first sound that you realized or like your family realized that you could be really great?
O'Shaughnessey: I performed Fozzie Bear and for some reason Tigger from (Winnie the Pooh). I just did it and don't know where it came from. But I would look at a baby or an animal and make noises for them. Regardless of their facial expressions I would have them say exactly what I thought they were saying. I want animals to talk. So I gave them a shout, but I feel like the Muppets developed stupid skills. that I have deeply
