US citizen born in Russia who was already there behind bars in Russia with a conviction for bribery he gave a second sentence for espionage.
Eugene Spector was given a new 15-year sentence for his espionage conviction, according to Russian news agencies. Spector was born and raised in Leningrad, Russia, but later immigrated to the US and became a citizen.
A Moscow Council brought espionage charges against Spector last August, though details of the case have not been made public.

The US State Department said it was aware of the reports of an American citizen living in Russia to be judged and that it was monitoring the situation.
Spector, a former executive at a Russian medical equipment company, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison in September 2022 for bribing an aide to former Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich .

The assistant, Anastasia Alekseyeva, was sentenced to 12 years in April for accepting bribes on two expensive overseas trips.
Dvorkovich was deputy prime minister under former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev from 2012 to 2018. Dvorkovich is currently the head of the international chess federation FIDE.
