The view of senior Russian and American employees back around a giant negotiation table is exceptional.
It will be very difficult for many Ukrainians to take it.
In Saudi Arabia, Moscow has achieved something basic: after three years of the neighbor's all-encompassing war and the isolation of the West, she returned to the “best mass” of global diplomacy.
Not only that, Russia sought the whole world as if it called the footage.
Even when Air Raid sirens continue to sound in Ukraine, that's exactly what Moscow wants to design.
This was not defeated Russia, forced to the negotiating table. It looked more like the United States, inviting the aggressor to expose its conditions.
It is true that US officials have entered the process, saying that they want to feel Russia, to check that it is serious for peace.
But Donald Trump had already drawn his conclusions. Last week, after talking to Vladimir Putin on the phone, he announced that the Russian leader “wants to see people stop dying.”
Trump could answer by telling him to withdraw all his troops.
Instead, he obviously wants to make a deal with Moscow to end the war, as he promised the voters, and move on.
After more than four hours of talks in Riyadh, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio came out to the press and announced that the first steps to the negotiations were agreed, with teams being formed on both sides.
He concluded that Russia was ready to join a “serious process” to end the war.
But why was he so sure?
The top table was the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov, still under sanctions on what the US Department of Finance called the “Brutal War of Election of Russia”.
When Lavrov met with the Russian media, he told them that the United States had offered a moratorium to attack energy infrastructure.
“We explained that we have never endangered the civil supply of energy and we are only focused on what directly serves the military of Ukraine,” was the Minister's answer.
This is not true.
I personally passed through the ruins of civilian power plants, which were directly directed by Russian missiles.
This is the country the US is trying to engage with, although there is sufficient evidence that it cannot be believed.
Russia also showed a zero sign to retreat on some reason: why would it do when the Trump administration has already agreed that Ukraine would never join NATO as Moscow wants and will not regain the occupied land?
Therefore, for the allies of Ukraine, it will not only be the image of American and Russian officials sitting on the shiny Saudi mass. This is also how they spoke.
The “basis” for future investment sounds like a promise to drop sanctions: without reading the war on aggression of Russia, then just a reward.
These, of course, are the most in the early days.
But in Moscow, employees and the state media feel the beginning of Russia's return to return to where it believes it belongs: face to face with the United States as equal.
