Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski is to return to the negotiating table and make a deal to access the United States to the critical minerals of Ukraine, said White House National Security Advisor Mike Walz.
On Wednesday, Zelenski rejected the US's demands for a share of its rare minerals – Trump said it would reflect the amount of assistance the United States provided to Ukraine during its war with Russia.
Comments made at a White House briefing on Thursday, overshadowed a meeting in Kiev between Zelenski and Keith Kellog, the US chief envoy to Ukraine.
Waltz said the White House was “very disappointed” with Zelenski after he leveled “unacceptable” insults of US President Donald Trump earlier this week.
Ukraine has huge deposits of critical elements and minerals, including lithium and titanium, as well as significant deposits of coal, gas, oil and uranium – delivery worth billions of dollars.
Earlier, on Thursday, the Wallez offered us access to rare minerals in Ukraine to be exchanged in exchange for help – or even as a compensation for the support that the United States has already provided.
“We presented to the Ukrainians a truly incredible and historical opportunity,” the advisor said, adding that it would be “sustainable” and “the best” security guarantee can hope Ukraine can hope.
But Zelenski declined the offer, saying, “I can't sell my country.”
Waltz's comments in the White House briefing came shortly after the Zelenski meeting with Keelog in Kiev, after which the Ukrainian leader announced that he was ready to make an “investment and security agreement” with the United States to end the war in Ukraine.
The meeting was welcomed as “productive” by Zelenski – but it looked more like an uncomfortable political date.
While senior members of Donald Trump's team continued to engage directly with Moscow, the retired general said he was in Kiev to “listen”.
But it soon became clear that he would not speak, publicly, after a press conference was canceled at the last moment.
The BBC understands that this is a US solution, with Ukrainian sources claiming that they believe Kelloge was “away” from the White House.
The meeting with Kellog was of great importance for Kiev, given that the employees rely on the special envoy to convey their needs to Washington.
In a publication shared by X, the Ukrainian president said he and the US Special Messenger had “a detailed conversation about the battlefield situation, how to return our prisoners of war and effective security guarantees.”
He added: “Ukraine is ready for a strong, effective investment and security agreement with the President of the United States.”
However, the possible reasons for the K -n Kelloge may not want to face questions.
Kelloge's meeting comes in the context of the war of the words between his boss Donald Trump and the leader of Ukraine, who ended with the President of the United States, referring to Zelenski as a “dictator without election”.
Trump also accused him of having begun the invasion of Russia.
It has now been reported that the US refuses to recognize a UN resolution, which refers to Moscow as an aggressor, while recognizing the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Earlier this week, Zelenski was expelled from negotiations between senior Russian and US officials who met in Saudi Arabia to discuss the possibility of ending the conflict.
The war began when Russia began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine three years ago, after its earlier annexation in Ukrainian territory.
Trump, who has been on a one -month service, believes that US involvement in the war is not in the interest of America – and in a radical conversion of the previous US foreign policy, he has chosen to negotiate directly with Russia to secure a quick end of the conflict.
On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio appeared after more than four hours of talks with Russian diplomats in Riyadh to announce that the first steps to the negotiations have been agreed, with teams being formed on both sides.
Following a meeting in the Middle East, Trump suggested that Zelenski had “started” the war with Russia – allegations that made Zelenski describe the US President as “living in this misinformation space”, ruled by Moscow.
Trump hit his dictator attack and claims that Zelenski had a low assessment of popularity among the Ukrainian electorate.
