A fire broke out inside a Lamborghini on Mumbai's coastal road on Wednesday night, authorities said. No injuries were reported in the incident. The fire broke out around 10.20 pm and a fire engine was sent to the spot.
A fire official said the fire was put out in 45 minutes. The number of occupants in the orange luxury car and the cause of the fire were not immediately available.
A video shared by Raymond Group Chairman and Managing Director Gautam Singhania shows the car's compartment on fire and a man trying to put it out. A car enthusiast, Singhania raised concerns about the company's safety standards.
He tweeted, “Just came to my attention: A Lamborghini engulfed in flames on Mumbai's Coastal Road. Incidents like this raise serious concerns about Lamborghini's reliability and safety standards. For the price and reputation, one expects uncompromising quality, not potential pitfalls.”
One user commented that he also saw the fire and that the car was shocked 45 minutes after the fire brigade put out the fire. Another user blamed the roadside repairs saying that many people who buy expensive cars cannot afford to maintain them as they should.
“Such incidents may be rare but very dangerous. Customer trust is broken. Car manufacturers should ensure uncompromising quality from their design stage including safety aspects,” said another user.
Singhania had earlier tweeted about a Lamborghini being towed due to a complete blackout. He shared an image of the car being towed away and asked, “Are these cars reliable?”
Another video shows flames in the cabin of a Lamborghini with a Gujarat registration number and a man trying to put them out.
