The Taliban told the BBC that it would seek to release two British citizens who were arrested and held in Afghanistan “as soon as possible”.
79 -year -old Peter Reynolds and his wife Barbie, 75, were arrested on February 1, while returning to their home in the country's province in the country.
An American citizen and Afghan were also arrested with the couple, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior said.
The United Kingdom's Foreign Office said on Monday that it supported their family.
In a statement, Taliban official Abdul Matin Kani said: “A series of considerations are taken into account and after evaluation we will strive to release them as soon as possible.”
All three foreign citizens had Afghan passports and national identity cards, he added.
The reason for the arrest of G -H and D -Ja Reynolds has not been confirmed.
The couple runs training projects in Afghanistan for 18 years, including one that included training mothers and children.
Their work was obviously approved by local authorities, despite the Taliban from banning education for girls over 12 years of age and not allowing women to work.
The Taliban announced that women would be Forbidden to work for non -governmental organizations (NGO) In 2022. Last December, he said he would Close all the NGOs that hire women.
The couple married in Kabul in 1970. They remained in Afghanistan after the return of the Taliban power in August 2021, in which most Westerners leave the country.
Their daughter Sarah Entwistle told BBC she She has not heard from her parents for more than two weeks.
They had communicated by text after the couple was originally arrested, but the contact stopped after three days.
D -Ja Entwistle and her siblings wrote to the Taliban to plead for the release of their parents.
“We admit that there have been cases where the exchange was beneficial to your government and the Western countries,” they wrote.
“However, our parents constantly expressed their commitment to Afghanistan, saying that they would soon sacrifice their lives than to become part of the negotiations on ransom or to be traded.”
On Monday, the Entwistle said they wanted to give the Taliban “explain their reasons” because G -n and d -Ja Reynolds “always tried to honor” the group.
But she said they could no longer wait, telling Times Radio: “Now we urgently urge the British Consulate to do everything in their power to answer us and to put as much pressure on the Taliban for their release.”
The United Kingdom closed its embassy in Kabul and withdrew its diplomats from the country after the Taliban returned to power.
The Foreign Office Service says support for British citizens in Afghanistan is “very limited” and advises all trips to the country.
