On Christmas period is here, and with it the Epic Games Store has stepped up its usual weekly free games offer to give you a new game every day for nothing. Christmas saw the award-winning Control up for grabs. Boxing Day? The same publisher, 505 Games, has another title on offer — until 8am local time (11am ET) on Friday, December 27.
Just like Steam, which is owned by Valve, Epic's platform gives gamers access to a huge library of great games, from indie hits to big budget blockbusters. Whether you're into action-packed adventures, deep RPGs, or sweet indie games, there's definitely something for everyone. If you have a solid gaming PC, you can dive into a wide variety of experiences on the Epic Games Store, where you'll find a ton of great free games and sweet discounts on popular titles.
The Epic Games Store has been giving away free games every week since 2019, meaning you'll never run out of games to play. Regardless of which storefront you use, the general rule of thumb is to never look a gift horse in the mouth when it comes to discounts and deals — and don't ignore the freebies. What are the new free games on the Epic Games Store this week? (December 26 – January 2)
Gostuner 2
Ghostrunner 2 is a 2023 first-person slasher from publisher Control 505 Games, set one year after the events of the original Ghostrunner game. It's available for free for one day only, before it's replaced by the next mystery holiday gift.
In Ghostrunner 2, players embark on another post-apocalyptic cyberpunk story. This takes place after the fall of the Chimaster, a tyrant who ruled the Dharma Tower, humanity's last refuge. As the protagonist Jack, you will have to face a violent cult of artificial intelligence that wants to take over the world.

What will be free on the Epic Games Store next week? (January 2-9)
We still don't know what the next Epic Games Store game will be. They usually announce it in advance, but Epic has decided to shroud next week's free-to-play game in mystery – which often means it's going to be great.

To register as an Epic Store user, first go to Epic Games website. In the upper right corner, click on Sign up button and then Create an account at the bottom of the page.
The Epic Store is different from Steam, so games you own on the Epic Store will not be available to play on Steam. If you want to play the free games you downloaded from the Epic Store, you must play them through the Epic launcher.
