Ghetto imagesHundreds of employees of the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) were fired in the latest development in the Trump administration's efforts to reduce the federal workforce.
About 880 workers – including the weather forecasts – have stopped working on Thursday, the US partner of the BBC said.
The abbreviations come when Elon Musk, as the head of the so -called Ministry of Government Efficiency (Doge), continues to reduce costs through financing and dismissal cuts.
A NOAA spokesman said the agency would not comment on internal staff questions.
Prior to the abbreviations on Thursday, NOAA had about 12,000 employees worldwide, including 6,773, who are scientists and engineers, according to the Agency's website.
“We continue to provide information about the weather, forecasts and warnings in accordance with our public safety mission,” the NOAA spokesman added.
But California Democrat Congressman Jared Huffman said the US people “depend on NOAA for free, accurate forecasts, signals of severe weather conditions and emergency information.”
“Hundreds of scientists and experts at NOAA have just received the news that every federal worker is afraid,” added Congress Huffman.
“The shameful mission of Musk brings vital programs to creaking. Clearing the government of scientists, experts and career government officials and reducing the basic programs will cost life.”
Miyoko Sakashita, the Ocean Director of the Center for Biodiversity, said Gutting Noaa will “go a major rescue.”
Recent developments have come days after government workers in the United States have encountered widespread confusion after conflicting advice on adherence to an order -backed order to list their work from last week in an email or termination of the person.
The announcement, sent to millions of federal officials last Saturday night, came after Musk posted on his social media platform X that the government staff “will soon receive an email asking to find out what they did last week.”
On Sunday, Musk said that in some cases, “we believe that non -existent people or the identity of the dead are used to collect salaries.”
In a copy of the email received by the BBC, employees were asked to answer, explaining their achievements from last week at five points from the bullet – without disclosing classified information.
But key agencies, including the departments of defense (DOD), health and human services (HHS), justice, Pentagon and FBI – now led by Trump employees who have instructed employees to ignore the Directive.
Agencies such as the Ministry of Transport, the Secret Service and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency have also encouraged their employees to comply, the reports said.
On Wednesday, Musk repeated the suggestion that a number of federal officials who have not responded to an email that wants a summary of their achievements from the previous week can be “dead” or “not real people”, but did not offer any facts to support it.
Speaking of Trump's first meetingMusk told reporters: “I think this email may have been best interpreted as a review of efficiency, but in fact it was a review of pulse check.
“Do you have an impulse? Do you have a pulse? And two neurons. So if you have an impulse and two neurons, you can answer email.”
Elsewhere, on Thursday, Federal Judge in San Francisco found that the massive dismissals of test officials were probably illegal.
District Judge William Alsup has ordered the staff management service to inform some federal agencies that he has no authority to order the dismissal of test staff, including the Ministry of Defense.
