President of Ukrainian Valodimir Zelensky visits President Trump at the White House on Friday, where two leaders are expected to sign an agreement regarding the US rare minerals.
Mr. Trump mentioned earlier this week that the US reached an agreement with Zelenskyy on a broad basis for the exchange of Ukraine Mineral resourcesAnd that the Ukrainian leader came to the White House because “I would like to sign it with me.” Mineral talks continued, despite state tensions between two leaders in recent days. It seems that Mr. Trump blamed Ukraine in a military war that started Russia and called Zelensky a “dictator”, refusing to say the same with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
One Ukrainian official told CBS News Kyiv hopes that the agreement will provide a permanent stream of security support that Ukraine needs. Mr. Trump said the transaction will help return US taxpayers on Thursday for Ukraine's support over the past three years.
In a message on the X Wednesday, Zelenskyy wrote“The guarantees of peace and security are the key to Russia no longer destroy the lives of other peoples.” He added: “It is important for me and all of us in the world that the US support does not stop. The strength is needed on the way to peace.”
Mr. Trump talked to Putin earlier this month and said the Russian leader wants to stop the war. Last week, the President said he trusted Russia in good faith to negotiate when Trump administration officials met with Russian negotiators in Saudi Arabia without a Ukrainian representative. The President said on Thursday that he believed that Putin would fulfill any peace agreement reached.
“I don't believe he will break his word,” Mr. Trump said.
Mr Trump last week called Zelenskyy “dictator”, Speaking to the fact that the five -year term of the Ukrainian leader ended last year, and the new elections did not take place. Ukraine has been under martial law since the war began in 2022, and the country's constitution prohibits elections during martial law. On Monday, during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, Mr. Trump asked if he considered Putin as a dictator because he called Zelenskyy one.
“I don't use these words slightly, I think we're going to see how everything will work out,” he replied. “Let's see what's going on.”
Mr. Trump even put the blame on Kiev for invading Russia.
“You never had to launch it, you could make a deal,” Mr. Trump said about Ukraine last week.
Trump administration officials are also reluctant to criticize Putin. National Security Advisor Mike Wals did not respond directly when the reporter asked him if Mr. Trump was considering Putin as a dictator. He also rose to a question about who was more responsible for war, Russia or Ukraine.
Addressing Mr. Trump, Waltz replied: “His goal here is to bring this war to the end, the period.”
The president often says war never started If he were president, not Joe Biden. Along the company's way, Mr. Trump promised to end the war between Russia and Ukraine before even taking office.
“Before I even came to the Oval Office, shortly after we win the presidency, I will have a terrible war between Russia and Ukraine,” Mr. Trump said at a rally in June. “I will be able to decide it before I even became president.”
But after winning the election, Mr. Trump suggested that it could be more difficult to reach peace between Russia and Ukraine than the fake of peace in the Middle East.
“I think it will actually be more difficult with Russia-Ukraine,” Mr. Trump said in December. “I see it as difficult.”
Earlier this week, Zelensky stated that he would give up the presidency, if you do it, to achieve lasting peace for Ukraine and NATO membership.
“If you really need to give up my post to reach peace, I am ready,” Zelensky said at the forum, which marks the three-year anniversary of Russia.
