
Three people were killed in a meeting after Cyclone Garks passed through the French territory of the Indian Ocean with impulses up to 234 km/h (145mph).
The tropical cyclone left more than 180,000 homes without energy and 170,000 without running water after making land on Friday morning.
The entire population of the remote island – including the emergency services and the police – was ordered to remain indoors as a maximum level of warning was imposed.
