Bone fragments found on the Mexican border in Chihuhua have been taken to a laboratory for identification, officials say.
Mexican authorities have found 12 bodies in a private cemetery in the northern state of Chihuahua.
Authorities found the skeleton in 11 graves in Ascension, about 180km (110 miles) west of Ciudad Juarez, near the border with the United States, the prosecutor's office said Thursday.
Investigators began searching the wreckage on December 18, and in the following days, expanded the search area.
They later found 11 shallow pits where a dozen bodies had been dumped.
The remains were taken to government laboratories for possible identification and to determine, if possible, the cause of death.
Chihuahua has been affected for years by gang-related violence as a means of drug trafficking and the smuggling of immigrants to the US.
The state has registered 3,927 missing persons since 1952, according to government statistics.
In all of Mexico, about 120,000 people are they are thought to be missing between years of violence and instability.
Relatives of many of the missing are left to search for their loved ones on their own, often forming volunteer search teams. go out into the wilderness in search of a secret grave.
It is not known whether any of those volunteer groups helped the authorities find the graves in Ascencion.
