Honor of the phone manufacturer will now offer seven years to Android OS and security updates for its Flagship phone Series, out of five, the company told CNET before its MWC introduced in Barcelona on Sunday. It is an obligation that puts her honor in the same software league as Samsung And GoogleWhat are the only two companies that offer this level of support.
Two additional years of support for Android will extend the life cycle of honorary phones, starting with the Honor Magic 7 Pro, allowing people to keep their expensive devices leaders longer or transfer them to others. Key, they will be able to do that secure in knowledge that they are safeWhile still offers superior performance and latest features.
“This obligation refers to the basic demand of today's consumers – devices that are not only powerful but also reliable, safe and durable,” said Fei Fang, president of Honor products. “Updates allow devices to develop together with users' needs.”
In Europe, where the obligation will first come into force, the EU Directive EcoDezing will take effect this summer to require phone manufacturers to secure at least five years updating the operating system of the devices in an attempt to reduce electronic waste. Honor's pledge to provide seven years of support not only exceeds what is needed, but also shows an obligation to provide value to the owners of phones.
There are many challenges that guarantee seven years of Android updates, Fang said. Older hardware is not necessarily built to support the latest systems and features, and sometimes struggles to maintain its smooth performance after updates. The solution, she added, is “coordination for cooperation with chip producers and ecosystems such as Google, which require deep partnerships that extend beyond traditional support cycles.”
You can assume that rapid proliferation of AI's demand features on phones can only make these updates harder to guarantee, but Fang said this is not the case. “The continuous AI of AI of Google is primarily based on the application, not at the level of the OS,” she said. “The complexity of AI's characteristics is not a challenge or difficulty, but a touch of vision of honor to build a leading global ecosystem of the device for you.”
It is a “big step” to honor it with market leaders Samsung and Google, said Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight. “It is not a small company given the costs and engineering resources associated with extensive multi -year support,” he added. “Being is interesting if other Chinese smartphone manufacturers feel forced to follow them.”
