Oakland police are investigating a crash involving BART police vehicles that left several injured

A multi-vehicle crash involving two police vehicles left several people injured in Oakland, California, on Saturday, according to law enforcement officials.

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) told Fox News Digital that the crash happened in the 700 block of Mandela Parkway, near the West Oakland train station. Footage from the scene showed wrecked police cars with broken windows and open doors, as well as debris on the street.

Officials were alerted to the situation at around 2:45 pm local time. According to Oakland police, two Bay Area Police Department Rapid Transit (BART) police vehicles were involved in the crash.

“Several vehicle occupants were injured during the collision,” an OPD spokesperson said. “Paramedics responded to the scene to assist and transport them to area hospitals for treatment.”

Authorities are investigating the crash and its cause.

“It is not known whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in this altercation,” the statement added.

OPD did not disclose whether BART officers were injured.
