Tributes, including from all five living presidents, poured in Sunday after news broke that former President Jimmy Carter had died at his home. Plains, Georgiawhen he is 100 years old.
Carter served as the 39th president of the United States, but he was also a peanut farmer with a “competent and compassionate” vision of government, which propelled him to the White House .
Former President Bill Clinton he said in a statement Sunday that he and his wife, Hillary, met Carter in 1975 as “proud, early supporters” of his presidential campaign.
“Hillary and I mourn the passing of President Jimmy Carter and are thankful for his long, happy life,” Clinton wrote. “Guided by his faith, President Carter lived to serve others – to the end.”

Clinton went on to praise her fellow president for his commitment to civil rights while serving as a state senator and governor of Georgia, as well as his efforts as president of the protecting the natural resources of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, restoring the Panama Canal to Panama and maintaining peace between Egypt and Israel in David's camp.
Carter's commitment after serving as president was also praised by Clinton, including efforts from the Carter Center to support credible elections, promote peace and fight disease.
“I will always be proud to have presented the Medal of Freedom to him and Rosalynn in 1999, and to have worked with him for many years after he left the White House,” Clinton wrote. “Our prayers are with Jack, Chip, Jeff, Amy, and their families.”

Former President George W. Bush he said Carter was a “man of strong faith” who was loyal to his family, community and country.
“President Carter honored the office. And his efforts to leave the world a better place did not end with the presidency,” Bush said. “His work with Habitat for Humanity and the Carter Center set an example of service that will inspire Americans throughout the generations.”
Carter, according to former President Obama, promised voters he would always tell the truth, which Obama said he “did.”

He embodied them. And in doing so, he he taught us all what it means to live a life of grace, dignity, justice, and service.”
Obama emphasized Carter's words when he accepted the Nobel Peace Prize: “God gives us the power to choose. We can choose to reduce suffering. We can choose to work together for peace.”
“He made that choice over and over again during his 100 years, and the world is the better for it,” Obama said.

In another post about X, Obama said, “President Carter taught us all what it means to live a life of grace, dignity, justice and service. Michelle and I send our thoughts and prayers to the family la Carter, and all who love and learned from this wonderful man.”
President Biden spoke of Carter as a man of great character and courage, faith and hope.
He also said that he and his wife would be happy to see Carter and his late wife, Rosalynn, together, noting that the love between the two is “the definition of unity,” while their leadership as a definition of “patriotism.”
“We will miss them both dearly, but it is comforting to know that they are reunited and will live forever in our hearts,” Biden said. “To the entire Carter family, we send our gratitude for sharing them with America and the world. To their staff – from the first days to the last – we have no doubt that you will first to do good deeds that go on.

President-elect Trump also responded to Carter's death on Social Truth.
“The challenges that Jimmy faced as President came at an important time for our country and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude,” Trump wrote. “Melania and I are thinking warmly of the Carter Family and their loved ones during this difficult time. We encourage everyone to keep them in our hearts and prayers.”
