A Connecticut man allegedly killed a mother, her baby who owed her more than $400


A A man from Connecticut facing many charges for the death of a mother and her baby son who allegedly killed them for the money the woman owed him.

New details were released about the November arrest of Lance “Macho” Morales, 23, after his initial appearance in court in Hartford, Connecticut, on Monday.

Morales is accused of killing 20-year-old Jessiah Mercado and her 4-month-old son Messiah Diaz with a drive-by gun on Nov. 19.

The arrest report says Morales fired at the car the two were in because Mercado owed him $400 for the use of his Mazda SUV, The Associated Press reported.

He charged her $100 a day to rent a car, and she reportedly fell behind on the payments.

Prior to fatal shooting at noon, there was an exchange between Morales and Mercado, where he told him that his infant son was in the SUV. A witness told police that Morales said he didn't care, the AP reported.

Two other people were in the car during the brutal crime, but only one of them was injured.

Morales' gun is believed to be fully self-inflicted, according to the arrest warrant.

A manhunt for Morales lasted four days after the fatal shooting, and ended arrested in Puerto Rico on Nov. 23. He was transferred to Connecticut on Saturday.

Morales is accused of two counts of murder, assault and other charges, and faces up to life in prison without parole if convicted.

He was ordered held on $5 million bail during a court hearing Monday.
