The US Prosecutor General, Pam Bondi, said on Tuesday that she ordered the Federal Prosecutors to apply for death against Luigi Mangione, a man accused of shooting the general director of Unitedhealthcare, Brian Thompson in front of the hotel in New York on December 4 last year.
The 26 -year -old mangione is in the face of separate federal and state allegations of murder for the murder that snatched the business community, while enlivening health insurance critics. Federal allegations include murder by using a firearm, which has the possibility of death penalty. State allegations carry a maximum punishment in prison.
Prosecutors said that two cases would continue parallel paths, and the state allegations were first expected to hear. It was not clear if the announcement of the death penalty of Bondi would change the order of trying out.
“The murder of Brian Thompson by Luigi Mangione-Niwinny man and father of two young children-was a premeditation, a cold-blooded murder that shocked America,” Bondi said in a statement.
“After thoroughly considering, I recommended the federal prosecutors to apply for the death penalty in this case, when we conduct the program of President Trump to stop crimes using violence and make America safe.”

Mangione did not confess to the state act and did not apply for federal allegations.
US President Donald Trump, who supervised the unprecedented period of enforcement at the end of his first term, signed the executive order on January 20, which forces the Department of Justice to apply for death in federal matters in relevant cases.
His predecessor, Joe Biden, issued a moratorium on federal executions.

Mangione was arrested five days later on December 9 while eating breakfast at McDonald's in Altoo, Pennsylvania.
The police said that they were wearing a weapon that suited the one he used during the shooting and false ID. The authorities also gave a notebook expressing hostility towards the health insurance industry, especially rich managers.
Unitedhealthcare is the largest health insurer in the US, although the company said that Mangione has never been a customer.
Prosecutors said that among the notifications in the notebook was one of August 2024, which said “the goal is insurance” because “checks every field” and one of October, which describes the intention to “craze” the director of the insurance company.
