Social media influences are a “new and increasing threat” to the unconditional indigenous people, a charity warned after the arrest of an American tourist traveling to a limited island of the Indian Ocean.
Mihail Victor Polyakov, 24 -year -old, claims to have landed on the island of North Sentinel in an obvious attempt to contact the isolated Sentinesk tribe, capturing his visit and leaving a can of coke and coconut on the shore.
Survival International, a group that advocates the rights of tribal people, said that the alleged act threatens the life of the person and the life of the tribe, calling it “deeply disturbing”.
The United States said it was aware and “monitor the situation”.
The chief of the Andaman and Nicobar HGS Dhalival, the AFP News Agency that the “American Citizen” had been presented before the local court and was detained for three days for “more questioning”.
AFP, citing G -n Dhaliwal, said that G -N -Polyakov blew a whistle off the island's shore in an attempt to attract the tribe's attention in about an hour.
He then landed for about five minutes, leaving his suggestions, collecting samples and recording video.
The police chief told AFP: “A review of his Gopro camera shots showed his entry and landing on the restricted island of North Sentinel.”
It is illegal for foreigners or Indians to travel within 5 km (three miles) of the islands to protect the people living there.
According to police, Polyakov visited the region twice before – including the use of inflatable kayak in October last year before being stopped by hotel employees.
After his arrest this week, the man told police that he was a “thrill seeker,” the Indian media reported.
Survival International said, Clearly, many years and emphasized that such visits are a threat to a community that has no immunity to external diseases.
Jonathan Masower, a spokesman for Survival International, told the BBC that they fear social media adding to the list of threats to unobstructed tribes. Several media reports are linked to G -N -Polyakov with a YouTube account, which includes videos from a recent trip to Afghanistan.
“Like all the slightly more well -established threats to such nations -from things like felling and mining in the Amazon, where most of the insolvent peoples live -now there are an increasing number … Impacting who are trying to do such things for followers,” said Mazower.
“There is a growing fascination in social media of this whole idea.”
Survival International describes Sentinese as “the most isolated root people in the world” living on an island around the size of Manhattan.
Mazower told the BBC that about 200 people belong to the tribe before adding that it was “impossible” to know its true number.
Few details are known to the group, in addition to being a community of the gatherer hunter who live in small settlements and are “extremely healthy,” he said.
He added that the incident emphasized why state defenses for communities like Sentineles were so important.
