'14 years of experience, I decided to sacrifice…': Mumbai graphic designer turns car driver after job market struggles

A Mumbai-based graphic designer with 14 years of experience has taken to LinkedIn to share his challenging journey after being laid off and the difficulties he faced in finding a new job. Kamlesh Kamtekar's heartfelt post has resonated widely, going viral as it highlights the harsh realities of unemployment and his brilliant decision to switch careers completely.

Kamtekar, who previously worked as an assistant creative manager, described his exhaustive job search efforts, which included sending numerous resumes and extensive networking. He began the story, “It's been almost 5 months since I lost my job due to company cost cutting. I was trying to find a new job after losing my previous job as an assistant design manager with 14 years experience in graphic design. .”

“I have gone to many friends for referrals, but I have not been successful yet. I have applied for many positions on LinkedIn, but my applications have been consistently rejected,” he wrote.

Faced with repeated rejections, Kamtekar found many companies unable to meet his salary expectations. This prompted him to consider an unconventional path: “After this feedback, I thought, why not work elsewhere and start my own business and make money on that low salary? At least I will have my own income,” he explained.

Choosing to embrace a new path, Kamtekar took a bold decision to leave behind his graphic design skills and become an autorickshaw driver. “So I sacrificed all my design skills and decided to drive an autorickshaw. Give your blessings to my new venture,” he concluded.

The internet has responded with a wave of sympathy and encouragement. Many users expressed their support in the comments section, with one commenting, “It's heartbreaking to see talent like this go unrecognized. Best wishes on your new journey.”

Another noted, “Brother, it takes real guts to step out of our comfort zone and step into something completely new. You have been a true example of perseverance – showing that everyone who has given up can keep going. The way you have handled this is truly inspiring.”
