Canadian tennis star Gabriela Dabrowski revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2024 in a post on social media.
Dabrowski, 32, said he delayed his treatment a bit so he could finish Wimbledon and The 2024 Paris Olympics.
“In the spring of 2023 I felt a lump in my left breast during a self-examination. A few months later, the doctor told me it was nothing and not to worry. So I didn't I did. Time went on, and in 2024, I thought the dough was bigger,” Dabrowski wrote on Instagram.

“During our WTA full physical, the WTA doctor told me she wasn't sure what it was, and I'm going to get it checked out… a cyst because of its imbalance and shadow 'It looks bad and I want you to get a biopsy right away.'
“The next morning I walked into Advent Health Hospital in Wesley Chapel and had my left breast examined. The first results came back that day: cancer. These are the words you never expect to hear, ' and suddenly your life or your loved one's life is turned around.
Dabrowski says he chooses to share his story now because for a long time he “wasn't ready to expose himself to the attention and questions I would have received before.”
The star tennis player wanted to “read everything and deal with things privately.”

Despite battling breast cancer, Dabrowski has not only competed at Wimbledon and the Olympics, but has had many successes.
Dabrowski and her doubles partner Erin Routliffe won the Wimbledon championships, and at the Paris Olympics, she won a bronze medal in the mixed doubles competition for Canada.
“My intention in sharing some of my experience is to emphasize the quality of life that can be saved when cancer is detected early, when you can find doctors and other doctors who are highly skilled and dedicated in their work, when you notice. “Being healthy mentally, physically and spiritually, and when you are around people who have your back (and front),” Dabrowski wrote.
“At the beginning of my diagnosis I was afraid that cancer would become part of my identity forever. I don't feel that way anymore. It's a privilege to call myself a survivor.”
Dabrowski said his diagnosis gave him the opportunity to see problems through a different lens, a “lens of gratitude.”

He ended his message saying, “To cancer I say f— you, but again, thank you.”
Dabrowski won three doubles in 2024 and has won 17 doubles in his career.
Dabrowski is also a three-time Olympian, competing at the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
