The US Supreme Court agreed to hear a statement from TikTok owner ByteDance. address law that may prohibit the application. The Protecting Americans from Surveilled Applications by Foreign Adversaries Act will take effect on Jan. 19, the day before President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration. ByteDance said the law violated free speech rights, a position the ACLU supported. The Justice Department defended the law in lower courts, citing concerns that the Chinese government could influence the company to collect data on American citizens.
The Supreme Court's reaction came quickly – just two days after the company filed an appeal. Oral arguments are scheduled for January 10.
