A Lego display descends upon the crowd as a NYE balloon welcomes children


A New Year's Eve party was cut short for families after a Lego display holding balloons for the drop fell full of Massachusetts arcades.

Peabody Police Department confirmed in a Facebook post that multiple people were injured when a plastic Lego display fell from the mezzanine level at the In the Game arcade in Peabody.

According to the Arcade's Facebook page, they were holding a “Spring Festival” on Tuesday afternoon.

Peabody Fire Chief John Dowling told Fox News Digital that they received a call about a partial ceiling collapse in the stadium just after noon.

After arriving at the scene, Dowling said crews discovered it wasn't a ceiling collapse but a 12-foot-tall Legos display that had fallen onto a group of people during its descent. New Year's Eve balloon.

Dowling said the balloons were supposed to be removed from the display during the party and it appears someone pulled hard on the display, causing it to fall.

Dowling said 10 people from minor injuries. Eight were taken to hospital for treatment, while two refused medical transport.

Of the eight who sought treatment, Dowling said three were adults and five children, with cuts and bruises.

Lawren Turco, who attended the event with his family, said WBZ-TV that it was “pure chaos.”

“We watched the whole balloon come down and we didn't know what happened until we took off right after the balloon came down,” Turco told WBZ-TV.

“Big pieces of LEGO were everywhere, kids were crying, there were tons of people in the office, some with ice on their heads and people let their kids steal the Lego pieces as souvenirs. It was pure chaos. I didn't know anything about the actual events until after the incident,” Turco continued.

The arcade was closed as a precaution for a short time after the incident but reopened a short time later.

A spokesperson for the sports agency told Fox News Digital that they are working with authorities while the situation is being investigated.
