El Salvador's leader will not return a person deported by us by mistake

Watch: Boukes says it won't return abrego garcia to the US

El Salvador will not return Kilmar Abrego Garcia, whom the US government deports to its home country, where it is held in Mega-Zatar.

President Naib Boukele made the comments during a Monday meeting in the White House with Donald Trump, with whom he shares a strong relationship.

The US Supreme Court ruled last week that the Trump administration should “facilitate” the return of G -N -Abango Garcia, who lived in Maryland with his family and received protection against deportation from a 2019 court.

The Trump administration claims that he cannot return him home, and General Prosecutor Pam Bondi said he was “to El Salvador if they wanted to return it”.

Trump praised a bouquet for a new partnership in which the United States can deport people who claim to be members of the gang in the Central American nation. The abrego Garcia, whose lawyer said he was not a member of the gang, was among the 238 Venezuelans and 23 Salvadorani, the Trump administration deported to the center of Salvador for terrorism detention (CECOT).

On Sunday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that 10 more suspected gang members were sent there, despite the legal challenges to those already deported. The United States believes that suspect members of MS-13 and Tren de Aragua bands, which are defined as “foreign terrorist organizations” by Trump.

In response to a faster decision of the US Supreme Court that the administration should facilitate the release of the Abango Garcia, the lawyers wrote on Sunday that the issue was a matter of foreign policy -and beyond the control of the courts.

Trump told reporters last week that if the Supreme Court said “return someone, I would have it.”

The Ministry of Justice has pointed to Bouke's comments that D -H -Hrego Garcia will not be returned to the United States as an update in their last court.

The wife of G -n Abgo Garcia Jennifer Vasquez Surah, a US citizen, said “Trump and Bouke's administrations continue to play political games with their lives.”

“My heart is heavy, but I behave the hope and the power of the people around me. For our children, our family and all the immigrants who are fighting for loved ones – Kilmar, we will not stop fighting for you,” she said in a statement.

The US government acknowledged that the abrego Garcia was deported because of an “administrative mistake”, although he also said he was a member of the MS -13 band -something his lawyer denies.

Officials were ordered to provide daily updates in steps that are being taken to return the US Abango Garcia to the United States.

Relations between Trump and Boukele are flourishing after the US President's return to the White House in January after Bouke has agreed to take us deportments, which helped Trump get into a bet.

Writing to X, Rubio said the union was “an example of security and prosperity in our hemisphere.”

Before the bouquet trip to Washington, Trump praised his colleague, who has positioned himself as a strong man.

Trump said the bouquet is doing “fantastic work” when closing some “very bad people … This should never be resolved in our country.”

The Trump team has so far sent more than 200 migrants to Salvador, who have been accused of being members of the gang. Many of them were removed from the country using a law that dates back to 1798.

BBC Mundo was allowed to enter Cecot, the maximum security prison of El Salvador, in 2024.

This is the symbol of the aggressive and controversial “war against gangs”, leading from President Bouke of 2022.

By covering 116 hectares, the prison was built for less than a year and has the capacity to hold 40,000 prisoners, according to the government. He is widely criticized for the alleged human rights violations and the lack of legal protection of prisoners.

The cells do not have windows or ventilation, and prisoners sleep on metal buns without mattresses or sheets. Each cell can hold more than 150 prisoners and have only two toilets without any confidentiality.

They have limited access to water and are allowed to go out to exercise 30 minutes a day.

Family members of some previous prison deported that they had links with bands.

A woman in Venezuela, Mirreis Kazik Lopez, recently told BBC Mundo that she became sure her son was among the detainees when she saw a photo of him to be taken to Cecot.

She suggested that he was targeted by US authorities because of his tattoos.

By announcing the removal of 10 more “criminals” in a social media publication on Sunday, Rubio did not say whether the most group was sent specifically to Cecot.

Earlier, the administration publishes images of deporting arriving at the facility – and Interior Security Minister Christie Nov visited last month.

Asked if there were concerns about the allegations of human rights violations in Cecot, Trump told reporters, “I don't see it.”

Bukele is to win both money and political capital since the acceptance of US deportments to Cecot.

According to US government documents obtained from the Associated Press, El Salvador receives $ 20,000 ($ 15,100 pounds) for deported annually.

This adds up to about $ 6 million for the largest group. Bouke says these payments, along with prison labor programs, will help to make the prison system financially self -sufficient.

Bringing closely with Trump, a bouquet acquires favor in Washington and reduces the control of its internal policies.

His government has arrested over 80,000 emergency people, which has lasted three years, with frequent detention reports without a proper process.

Critics say the United States is now less likely to challenge democratic failures or abuses of rights in El Salvador.
