The US Government is suing Maine for refusing to ban transsexual athletes

The Trump administration is suing Maine's condition for refusing to ban transsexual athletes from participating in women's sport.

This move is an escalation in the public battle between the governor of the state and Donald Trump, which includes threats from the President to reduce funding in the Maine Education Division.

“The Ministry of Justice will not sit when women are discriminated against in sports,” US Prosecutor General Pam Bondi said on Wednesday. “This is also about the personal safety of these young women.”

In response, Maine Governor Janet Mills said the question “has never been about school sports to protect women and girls.”

She also accused the federal government of “imposing its will” on states.

The dispute focuses on Title IX, an American Civil Rights Act, which prohibits gender -based discrimination in educational programs.

In February, Trump signed an enforcement order that ordered the law to interpret as prohibiting the participation of transsexual women and girls in women's sport.

The federal government claims that the Maine education department violates the law.

During a press conference, Pam Bondi said the administration wanted to undress titles from transsexual athletes.

“We are also considering whether to withdraw all the funding that they (the education department) have received that they do not comply in the past,” Bondi said.

The claim comes days after the Trump administration tried to cut all Maine's federal funding for public schools and her lunch program at school.

This move seems to be in response to public spitting between the governor of the state and Trump during a meeting of US governors on February 21st.

During the meeting, Trump threatened the state funding if Mills did not comply with an executive order forbidding transgender women from women's sports.

Mills replied, “I'll see you in court.”

On Wednesday, she said the federal government “acts illegally”.

“For nearly two months, Maine has been charged with the federal government who have directed children from hungry schools, hardworking fishermen, elderly citizens, new parents and countless people in Maine,” Mill said.

“We were the subject of politically motivated investigations that opened and closed without discussion, leaving a little doubt that their results were predetermined.”

Mills said two transsexual athletes compete in Maine schools.

Less than 1% of people over 13 in the United States are transsexual, according to a UCLA Williams Institute.

The lawsuit is the latest in a series of actions taken by Trump to cancel policies around transgender people introduced by the Biden administration.

Trump has in February signed an enforcement order This does not allow transgender women to compete in women's categories.

After this decision, the NCAA, the governing body for the US Sports in College, Prohibited Transsexual Women From women's sports competitions.

Also on Wednesday, in the UK, The Supreme Court ruled that the legitimate definition of the woman was based on biological sex. The court said transgender people still have legal protection against discrimination.
