The oldest astronaut of America Dan Petit returned to Earth on his 70th birthday.
The Soyuz MS-26 spacecraft, bearing a five-year-old, and his Russian crews Alexei Ovchinin and Ivan Wagner made a parachute assistant landing in the steppe of Kazakhstan at 06:20 local time (01:20 GMT) on Sunday.
They spent 220 days aboard the International Space Station (ISS), touring the Earth 3,520 times, NASA US space agency said.
For Petit – who has now spent a total of 590 days in space – it was his fourth mission.
However, he is not the oldest person to fly in orbit – this record belongs to John Glenn, who at the age of 77 flies on a NASA mission in 1998. He died in 2016.
Petty and two Russian astronauts will already spend some time adapting to gravity.
Then Petit – who was born in Oregon on April 20, 1955 – will be taken to Houston in Texas, while shepherd and Wagner will go to Russia's main space training base in Star City near Moscow.
Prior to leaving the ISS, the crew presented the command of the spacecraft to the Japanese astronaut Takuya onishes.
