A user X, known as 'Gujju Tweeter', recently started discussions online with a post contrasting his experiences living in two cities in India. The post began with the blunt comment, “Ahmedabad sucks,” as the user reflected on his time in Bengaluru compared to his life in the Gujarati city.
He was candid about his decision to move to Ahmedabad after living in Bangalore as a “big mistake”.
“It was a livelier life in Bangalore than here (Ahmedabad),” he said, highlighting the shock he felt in Bangalore to find himself missing in Ahmedabad.
“I lived among very smart people in their fields. Simple life and strong set-up. Ahmedabad, all this showcases and family-run companies (even IT companies) and how they exploit hostile workers. No professional ethics and many subtle mentalities. He said the problems are all shows and often the rich live on “borrowed money”.
The user did not stop there and claimed that there is no cooperative culture in Ahmedabad.
In response to a suggestion by technologist Abhinav Balda to explore cafes, co-working spaces and meetups to find community, the user shared his frustration. He replied, “Tried that too, there's no co-working culture here, in meetings, they talk about 'hello world' topics, very basic things that don't make sense. Yes, there are great people and subject matter experts, they're exiled to meet such low-quality people.” doing or refraining from.”
With these comments about Ahmedabad hitting the internet, the post sparked a wave of reactions from netizens, with more than 100 responses pouring in to X, as users shared their own perspectives on the city.
Supporting user X's perspective, one reply stated, “Ahmedabad is over-developed, and the atmosphere is so harsh there that I find the heat of the Kutch desert in May-June more bearable than Ahmedabad.” Another said, “Vadodara and Surat are better cities than Ahmedabad. Being a Gujarati, I never liked Ahmedabad.”
One X user suggested that Ahmedabad's image was being artificially bolstered, “Ahmedabad has been pushed to be cool by the government.” Meanwhile, another shared a personal experience of relocating to the city: “We moved from Bangalore to Ahmedabad and are staying from 2021. My experience is different because I work from home and have very limited interaction with the public, from ordering groceries to milk. Online Ahmedabad has nice roads, but finding a house on rent is difficult if you are not a vegetarian.
