Nosferatu It was released in theaters during Christmas and is based on The movie's box office pullIt seems like many horror fans rushed out to see Bill Skarsgård's creepy Count Orlok look-alike. A closely guarded secret Before its big screen release, the film's prosthetic makeup was currently designed by David White (his other credits include Guardian of the Galaxy– crow– Marvel guysand northerner) shared some surprising tidbits about the film's shocking climax.
In case you haven't already sunk your teeth into Robert Eggers' latest work…
At the end of the story The vampires were destroyed in the only way possible. That's with the sunshine, as the distracted Ellen (Lily-Rose Depp) sacrifices herself by allowing Orlock to fulfill his dark obsession just in the nick of time. The right time before dawn Her death is gruesome but still has a Gothic charm. His death was horrible and just… scary– Considering writer-director Eggers' trademark attention to detail, White's explanation for how they created Orlok's double-dead look isn't entirely surprising. Even if it is gruesome.
“Robert wanted to cut from Orlok's anguished screams to the final shot of him laying dead on Ellen, when he was nothing more than a bark of a tree,” White recalled in an interview with variety– “I shared with Robert the body in various states of decay and withering. He wanted the feeling of being sucked away by Orlok for the rest of his life. Every last drop of blood We took final inspiration from reference photographs of a 5,300-year-old body of an ice skater that was rediscovered in the Alps.”
The end result is a mix of practicality and VFX, White explains. “When I'm done with this, It was shot within the set and VFX then scanned the corpse and also scanned the bill for this final look. Then VFX enhanced the painful withering moments between the two looks to complete the scene.”
Making the desiccated “husk” feel even more dramatic is the fact that White's other work on the film has one goal in mind: “I was keen to keep his age vague – immortal.” He told Variety, “I did this by paying attention to the number of wrinkles and the clear lines of the character. It made the look lighter, with no cap covering the eyelids and no bags under the eyes.” He also had to be charming and attractive to Ellen. and can conceal his filth and decay by hiding in the shadows.”
The sun is unforgiving no matter who you are. especially If you were an ancient vampire Nosferatu It's in movie theaters now.
