“I vote for the first time after running away from dictatorship”


Ahmad Al Masri and his wife Gaida grew up under the shadow of Bashar Al-Assad's dictatorship in Syria, where democracy and freedom of expression were just dreams.

Now on their 40s and newcomers, they are about to vote for the first time in the common elections in Canada. This is more than a vote for them – this is a powerful moment of freedom that they never thought would have.
