According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Fox News Digital, Kerley and his wife got into a verbal altercation and then argued about May's birthday when Kerley's wife meet “an unknown person on Instagram.”
Kerley approached his wife aggressively, and struck her out of fear, according to the affidavit. Kerley “grabbed the victim, pushed him to the ground, wrapped his arm around his neck and choked him.”
The affidavit says Kerley stole his wife's phone after the second penetration. Kerley was not there when authorities arrived, and witnesses needed cooperation.
A possible alert was entered into the prison system, and he was charged after his arrest on Thursday night.
Kerley won a bronze medal in the Paris summer 100 meters, while teammate Noah Lyles he got his first Olympic gold. Kerley won the 2022 world championships in the event and silver at the Tokyo Olympics.
He also has world championships in the 4×400-meter relay in 2019 and the 4×100-meter relay in 2023.
Kerley was part of the 4x100mm relay team in Paris that was disqualified due to poor performance. Lyles thought he was part of that team but came down with COVID earlier in the week, which caused him to miss the 200 meters, an event in which he was heavily favored.
