The rapper stabbed 14 times in prison in California Prison

The rapper Tori Lanes was taken to hospital after being stabbed 14 times in a prison in California.

The Canadian hip-hop artist was attacked by another prisoner on Monday morning at the California Correctional Institution in Tahachapi, about 75 miles (120 km) north of Los Angeles, prison staff told the BBC.

The 32-year-old rapper has suffered wounds to his body, reaping both his lungs to collapse, according to a publication in his Instagram account.

Lanes, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, serves a 10-year sentence for a shooting musician Megan Tee St. in 2020.

The star's post on Instagram said he had been stabbed in the back, torso, head and face. It was temporarily placed on a respiratory apparatus, but is now able to breathe on its own, the Instagram post adds.

“Although he has pain, he speaks normally, in a good mood and deeply grateful to the God he chooses,” the publication said.

The attack took place around 07:20 local time (15:20 GMT), said Pedro Calderon Michel of the State Department for correction.

Prison staff started first aid before Lanes was taken to a local medical facility for further treatment, he said.

An investigation is currently underway, G -N Calderón Michel told the BBC. He did not comment on the attacker's motive.
