A former top Russian general has been closed for seven years after being charged with bribery.
Lt gen vadim shamarin was arrested last year During the corruption repression at the Ministry of Defense, launched by the Kremlin, and was accused of taking a “particularly large bribe” by a telecommunications company.
The investigating committee of Russia said it had taken bribes worth 36 million rubles (£ 331,000) between 2019 and 2023 from a factory that produces communication equipment – and in return increased the amount of state contracts awarded to the company.
Prior to his arrest, he was the deputy chief of the Army General Staff, which controls the corpus of signals and military communications.
The Russian agency TAS quotes the slap lawyer, who says: “A common slap was sentenced to seven years in maximum criminal security colony, a seven -year ban on public service and was deprived of its military rank.”
The court also confiscated 36 million rubles from it, according to RIA Novoti.
Shamarin was among several personalities of the University of Defense, which were detained last year, which included Deputy Minister of Defense Timur Ivanov and Gen. Yuri Kuznetsov, Head of the Directorate of the Ministry of Defense.
This came after Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected his long -term Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu in May 2024.
He was replaced by Andrei Belosov, an economist with little military experience.
Experts have suggested that corruption repression has been attempted by the Kremlin to increase efficiency in Russian military.
